Since its inception in October 1990, VMIC has grown considerably and its achievements have been outstanding. In 2004 VMIC wrote over $400 million in Gross Premiums and remained one of the most profitable insurance companies operating in Jamaica despite the "pay outs" that resulted from Hurricane Ivan related claims.
The VMIC customer base comes from the Society, brokers and directly. We have approximately 12,000 clients 50% through the society, 33% through brokers and 17% directly. They are divided equally between private property and motor vehicle insurers.
Currently, 70% are in the kingston metropolitan area and the remainder are distributed through the rest of the island. We offer insurance to the Society's overseas customers who own property locally. Howerver, there has been significant uptake in our overseas customer base.
